I have had my own system of fabric organizing for quite a while -- probably about 8 years actually. I know that because a dollar store went out of business in our downtown, that my son worked at and I got a great deal on the baskets that the store used to keep small items in to display on the open shelves. The baskets were like 10 cents each at the time and I bought about 20! Over the years though with handling they have developed cracks and breaks and I have disposed of at least one third of the ones I have. I don't know how much longer these will last me, but for now they are quite adequete and I am going to continue using them. Except, in a slightly different manner than I have been doing.
It's one of those "Why didn't I think of that before?", things!
Everytime I wanted a fabric, or to try to combine various fabrics I would be digging through these baskets to see what was in there.
It was very easy to miss something or completely forget some of the smaller pieces.
The difference is small but changes the whole view of things! Now, there is no digging. I can see what is in a particular basket as it sits on my shelves. I have only done the roll up and stack to two of my baskets as you can see in this photo. The difference is HUGE! The baskets of fabric below are over stacked, but when tidied and rolled, I don't think the basket will overflow -- those floral fabrics on the left of the photo were over flowing their basket but now they fit quite nicely...
Well, this project is one that will take a few days, I still need to sew! I tell myself a half hour to organize the baskets, then get on with the sewing!
So, have you decided to take on an New Year organization? What is it?
